ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Eight new public bathrooms are coming to Ann Arbor in the coming weeks.

City officials said installation of the new bathrooms began this week, and they’re expected to open sometime in the coming weeks.

They’ll be available for one year, but city officials said this experiment will help determine where permanent public bathrooms are needed.

Baby-changing stations are included with the restrooms.

The Throne bathrooms will be “colorful additions” to Downtown Ann Arbor, with designs that celebrate the city’s bicentennial, officials said.

“We’re excited to launch this one-year pilot program and offer our downtown and parks visitors safe and dignified public restroom options for all people, regardless of ability, gender, race, housing status, culture, and age,” Ann Arbor City Administrator Milton Dohoney Jr. said. “We want to be a welcoming and inclusive city, and this pilot program will allow us to achieve this goal, which, although temporary, will help us to determine where permanent public restrooms are needed in the downtown.”

Bathroom locations

The bathrooms will be scattered throughout seven different locations.

  • The 100 block of East Washington Street, east of Main Street, on the north side of the street.
  • The Robert J. Delonis Center at 312 W. Huron Street.
