Basement fire sparked by lithium-ion battery closes Ann Arbor restaurant

Restaurant will be closed until repairs can be made

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – A basement fire has closed the Pretzel Bell restaurant in Ann Arbor.

The fire, sparked by a lithium-ion battery for a leaf blower resting on an electrical switch gearbox, broke out on Thursday (July 4) at 10:50 p.m. in the 226 block of South Main Street.

Officials say the battery likely overheated, causing the fire. The fire damage was limited to the electrical room.

Due to the electrical switch gear damage, the restaurant will be closed until repairs can be made.

Officials said there were no injuries.
