2 hospitalized in house fire at University of Michigan student apartment

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – A house fire in Ann Arbor hospitalized two people Wednesday morning.

According to authorities, the fire broke out at about 1:30 a.m. at a home on Monroe Street, near Oakland Avenue. Fire crews said started in the kitchen on the second floor of a three-story home that was used for student apartments.

The kitchen fire was quickly extinguished and two people were sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

The entire building suffered smoke damage, but the fire damage was limited to the second floor.

The structure is owned by the University of Michigan, who will do the investigation into the fire.
