ANN ARBOR, Mich. – An Ann Arbor youth football and cheer program has lost thousands of dollars in equipment after thieves stole their trailer.
The Huron High School trailer reads construction on the side. But when the crooks cranked open the back door, it’s clear everything inside was meant for a competitive sports league.
Update: Ann Arbor stolen youth football, cheer equipment recovered
So, the question that needs answering is what can be done to help ensure the kids' continued competitiveness.
The Washtenaw Maize Jr. football and cheer compete for wins on the field. However, the theft was a loss they are taking right now, and they hope it will turn into a win.
Adriya Perry opened up a storage locker Monday (Oct. 28) afternoon.
“I’m just looking to see what we possibly have because I know the biggest thing is we have playoffs on Saturday, and we are hosting,” said Perry.
Perry sought items to help the Jr. football and cheer squad Washtenaw Maize compete this weekend.
“We are preparing them as athletes on and off of the field,” Perry said.
Maize football is a family that teaches discipline, hard work, teamwork, and now a life lesson in right and wrong.
Perry was at the storage unit because of the program’s green equipment trailer.
The trailer is not where it should be. Someone hooked it up and drove off with it over the weekend where it is kept at Huron High School in Ann Arbor
“We had cheerleading mats, uniforms, football helmets, and shoulder pads,” Perry said.
The stolen trailer is green with the logo “Unique Construction” and its 866 number on the side.
The Maize knows how to play and cheer through adversity, but even the kit to repair facemasks is gone.
Extra football pants or extra cheer gear are in that trailer, and the person who opens the trailer knows exactly that they are stealing from kids.
