Vice President Kamala Harris, Tim Walz hold campaign rally in Ann Arbor amid early voting

Election Day is Nov. 5

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Republicans and Democrats are setting their sights on Michigan as Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump look to win the battleground state.

Each ticket held rallies on Monday (Oct. 28), with more to come later this week. But, one thing is different about this election cycle for Michigan voters.

A quarter of the state’s active registered voters have already cast ballots, including more than 250,000 people who are taking advantage of early voting for the first time in our state’s history.

And another 1.5 million people voting absentee.

So, with the election already in full swing in Michigan, time is of the essence for these campaigns.

Team Trump was campaigning in Wyandotte while Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz made their plea to voters in Ann Arbor.

Harris and Walz rallied with thousands in the home of the reigning defending College Football Playoff National Champion Michigan Wolverines.

They were drawing the contrast between their vision for America and Trump.

With just one week until the presidential election, Michigan Democrats rallied hard for their ticket.

Harris and Walz spoke about policy and all that’s at stake,

“When the Republican party used to talk about policy and mean it, it turns out that this group means that the government is free to invade your office, your library, and your bedroom,” said Walz.

Their message was well-received among students and veterans alike

“I don’t feel the other side is what my beliefs are right now, and I just love Kamala and what she stands for,” said a man at the rally.

“It’s easy to feel in this election that your vote doesn’t count, and I’ve been coming to events like this shows just how broad this world is and I just think that is important,” said a University of Michigan student.

Still, the rally didn’t go without interruption as protesters of the war in Gaza interrupted Harris with chants.

Harris responded.

“Guy’s I hear you. We all want this war to end as soon as possible and get the hostages out, and I will do everything in my power,” said Harris.

The vice president emphasized that she would be a president who looks out for the interests of all Americans.

“So, either it’s Donald Trump sitting in there stewing over his enemies list or me, with your help, working for you, checking off my to-do list.”

Walz’s speech had a football analogy; he reminded their supporters of what was at stake.

The game is tied; only two minutes are left in the fourth quarter. Encouraging everyone who hasn’t already voted.
