ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Here’s what we know about the emergency situation Wednesday night at a University of Michigan campus building.
Where this happened
The situation happened on the northernmost edge of the university’s North Campus.
Police were called to the parking lot between the North Campus Research Complex and the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute.
That’s in the area of the 2800 block of Plymouth Road, at Huron Parkway.
When this happened
An emergency alert was issued at 9:24 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024, by the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security. Everyone was asked to avoid the area in question.
About an hour later, at 10:26 p.m., an update revealed that the situation was “ongoing” in the parking lot. A similar update was shared at 11:14 p.m., with clarifications that officers were handling the scene.
The all-clear was given at 11:37 p.m., with police saying regular activities could resume.
What officials said
There hasn’t been much specific information shared about what caused the emergency alerts.
The University of Michigan released the following update overnight:
“DPSS, working with regional law enforcement agencies and local crisis response partners, responded to an individual threatening self-harm in a parking lot at the North Campus Research Complex,” the U of M Department of Public Safety and Security posted. “The situation was resolved peacefully and safely.”
No injuries have been reported.
