WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – As part of the Michigan Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) bridge project, Edward Hines Drive will be closed between Newburgh and Wayne roads starting Monday, Feb. 24.
The project involves demolishing and rebuilding the Edward Hines Drive bridge over Ann Arbor Road and the shared-use path and pavement leading to it.

A temporary bridge will be available for pedestrians only.
Eastbound traffic on Edward Hines Drive will be rerouted via northbound Newburgh Road, eastbound Ann Arbor/Plymouth Road, southbound Farmington Road, and westbound Joy Road back to eastbound Edward Hines Drive.
Westbound traffic will follow a detour via eastbound Joy Road, northbound Farmington Road, westbound Ann Arbor/Plymouth Road, and southbound Jughandle Road back to westbound Edward Hines Drive.
This project is part of a $21.5 million investment to replace the bridges on Old M-14 (Ann Arbor Road) over the Middle Rouge River, initially built in 1925, and Edward Hines Drive over Ann Arbor Road, built in 1948.
The work includes rebuilding intersections and modernizing traffic signals, with completion expected by the end of 2025.
Since early January, Ann Arbor Road has been closed between Newburgh Road and Market Street, west of Levan Road.
The work includes demolishing and rebuilding the Ann Arbor Road bridge over the Middle Rouge River, rebuilding pavement from Newburgh Road to Market Street, and improving drainage.
Eastbound Ann Arbor Road traffic is detoured via northbound Newburgh Road to eastbound Ann Arbor/Plymouth Road. In contrast, westbound Ann Arbor/Plymouth Road traffic is detoured via southbound Newburgh Road to westbound Ann Arbor Road.
Later in the year, additional work will be done to rebuild and modernize traffic signals at two Ann Arbor Road intersections (Newburgh and Plymouth roads).
Based on economic modeling, the investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 205 jobs.
