POSITION OVERVIEW

As Director of Local Programming you will own the oversight of the station’s production of the biggest local events, our aggressive local documentary strategies, our partnerships with other local organizations through our station’s streaming channel Local4+ and community programs like Go 4 It and help chart the future of live streaming content. You will oversee our daily local lifestyle show to ensure it is meeting its audience and revenue objectives. In addition, you will serve as a liaison to our broadcast network partners to facilitate and implement program changes and opportunities. You will work closely with the General Manager, Creative Services Director, News Director, Director of Technology, and General Sales Manager to seize opportunities to create revenue generating special programs and projects on all platforms that fit the station’s overall mission and vision to serve our audiences. A significant part of your job will be collaborating with your team and all departments within the station to create a welcoming environment where collaboration and idea generation is encouraged and rewarded.

RESPONSIBILITES

  • Lead local programming staff including producers, photographers, editors, and other assigned personnel fostering a workplace culture rich in collaboration and innovation. Effectively communicate department plans across the entire organization.
  • Champion cutting edge practices in video gathering, editing, remote broadcasts, and live streaming continually raising the bar for all station local programming.
  • Offer strategic planning and insights for upcoming events and special programs ensuring content interconnects fluidly across all platforms.
  • Oversee the local programming budget with an eye toward making sure local events and specials are well-organized.   
  • Communicate with our broadcast network regarding program changes, pre-emptions, and daily and weekly operating conditions to insure we meet all required obligations.
  • Work with our sales team and communicate with clients and station partners regarding special projects and programs. 
  • Other duties as assigned.   

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in producing and managing local programs and specials.
  • A track record of demonstrating the ability to galvanize a team of individuals to work toward a common goal.
  • Excellent communication skills to onboard staff and to set expectations for team members and hold them accountable to stated goals and objectives.
  • Solid problem-solving skills, capable of innovative thinking and collaborative solutions implementations across departments.
  • In-depth knowledge of broadcast and digital content gathering.
  • Exceptional writing and producing skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A preferable academic background in broadcast journalism, broadcast news, or a related field.
