The Palace of Auburn Hills sponsors 11th Annual Red Cross Blood Drive

AUBURN HILLS, Mich.Palace Sports and Entertainment (PS&E) and the American Red Cross Southeastern Michigan Blood Services Region are joining forces for the 11th annual Palace Blood Drive slated for Tuesday, September 11, 2012, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

This community drive was organized in 2002 as a way for individuals to commemorate the anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks and, at the same time, give the community an opportunity to help save lives by building the blood supply in Southeastern Michigan.

In honor of those whose lives were lost on September 11, 2001, the VFW Post 1370 Minute Man Platoon Honor Guard will present a rifle salute and taps at 8:46 a.m., the time the first plane struck the first World Trade Center Tower.

Everyone who comes to donate blood at this year's Palace Blood Drive will receive special thank you gifts including: Detroit Pistons memorabilia; Detroit Pistons tickets to a pre-season game and the first game of the regular season; and a $10 gift card. (All gifts are available while supplies last.) In addition, everyone who comes to donate will be entered to win a $500 gas card or an iPad.

"Palace Sports and Entertainment is honored to participate, in this small way, in honoring all those who volunteered their services and care around the tragic events of 9/11 - by offering the Palace as a site for a blood drive," said Dennis Mannion, CEO of PS&E.

"Many lives have been saved thanks to the efforts of everyone who has supported this blood drive since its inception. The partnership between the Palace and the Red Cross is very importanfor our community," said Southeastern Michigan Region Red Cross Blood Services CEO Diane E. Ward. "We have an urgent need for blood donors right now and this blood drive provides an excellent opportunity for donors to help build an adequate blood supply for our community."

Advance appointments are encouraged. Donors with appointments will be given first priority, and the wait time for those who do not have appointments could be quite lengthy.

How to Donate Blood

To schedule an appointment to donate please call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org for more information. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in some states), meet weight and height requirements (110 pounds or more, depending on their height) and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. Please bring your Red Cross blood donor card or other form of positive ID when you come to donate.
