ROMULUS, Mich. – Dorothy Byrd turns 100 years old on Saturday, April 24, but she received an early birthday present Friday with one street being renamed in her honor.
On Friday, the City of Romulus and Wayne County officials came together at the corner of Hunt Street and Beverly Road, presenting proclamations.
Byrd campaigned for social justice and even walked down Woodward Avenue alongside Martin Luther King Jr. in 1963. When she wasn’t rallying, she was likely at a dance hall.
“She’s the most fierce little lady I’ve ever met,” said City Councilwoman Virginia Williams.
