DETROIT – It’s about to get a bit more colorful this weekend with several art fairs around different neighborhoods. Plus, Ed Sheeran headlines Ford Field.

10 things to do this weekend in Metro Detroit

Wyandotte Street Art Fair (Downtown Wyandotte), through Sunday: Head Downriver for one of the largest art fairs where you can find over 250 artists from across Michigan and the country selling paintings, photography, jewelry, furniture and more. Over 200,000 art enthusiasts are expected to attend the fair which also features dozens of local restaurants and food vendors. Admission is free. More info and map here.

African World Festival (Hart Plaza), Friday to Sunday: Join the Charles H. Wright Museum for the 40th anniversary of the weekend-long festival. Over 100 vendors will line up Hart Plaza along with three stages for live entertainment with performances by Parliament-Funkadelic ft. George Clinton, Mumu Fresh, Paige Hernandez, Omar Sosa Quarteto Americanos, Oumou Sangare’ and so much more. Daily admission is $15 for adults or $35 for a full weekend pass. Festa Italiana (Freedom Hill Country Park), Friday to Sunday: Celebrate Italian heritage at one of the largest Italian American traditions in Metro Detroit. From delicious food to live music, this free family festival brings together thousands of guests every year. Don’t miss the Friday night fireworks, as well as the Family Fun Zone with bounce houses, zip line, bocce courts, a rock climbing wall and more. Schedule of entertainment here.

Pig & Whiskey (Downtown Ferndale), Friday to Sunday: Summer is all about BBQ and what better way to soak up that smokey goodness than in the heart of Ferndale. Come hungry as dozens of the best food trucks and pitmasters take your taste buds on a culinary adventure. Plus, sip on some of the finest whiskeys from around the world all in one place. Live music will keep hungry fans entertained all weekend long with performances by Brother Elsey, Michigan Rattlers, White Reaper and more. Admission is free. More info here.

Opera in the Parks (Gordon Park), Friday 5 to 8 p.m.: Before the opera season kicks into high gear later this year, hear the fine vocalists of the Detroit Opera Touring Ensemble at various local parks this summer. The activity-filled evenings include yoga, an art and meditation session, massages, food trucks, vendors and photo booths. Summer schedule here.

Czech and Slovak Festival (Sokol Cultural Center), Saturday & Sunday: Bring the whole family for an affordable and fun weekend celebrating Czech and Slovak culture. Festival highlights include music and dancing, and traditional food including kolache. Admission is $5 per day and is open 1:30 to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 12:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. Berkley Street Art Fest (Downtown Berkley), Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Downtown Berkley gets a lot more colorful this weekend as the streets gets transformed with chalk murals and art around every corner. Stop by the plenty of food trucks and local restaurants around Berkley and head to the Shop for Good Village for a curated collection of handmade products. More info and map here.

Ed Sheeran (Ford Field), Saturday 6 p.m.: The hitmaker is back on the road after his last tour in Detroit five years ago. Global superstar Ed Sheeran is bringing his “+ - = ÷ x” tour (pronounced “The Mathematics Tour”) to Ford Field in a 360-degree show spanning his extensive career. He’ll be joined by Rosa Linn and Khalid. Sheeran will also be performing a much more intimate show for his “- Tour” on Friday at the Royal Oak Music Theatre for lucky fans who were able to get tickets. Detroit Festival of Books (Shed 5, Eastern Market), Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: The largest book festival in Michigan returns for the 6th year. Discover your next favorite read with thousands of books from fiction, nonfiction, cookbooks, comic books, collectibles and more. Meet vendors from around the country who can help find the perfect book for you. There will also be food trucks and live music. Admission is free and open to the public. More info here.

Midtown Art Fair (111 E. Kirby St., Detroit), Sunday 1 to 6 p.m.: After a successful festival last year, Midtown Art Fair is back and bigger. Find brand new pieces of art right in the heart of Detroit’s cultural center. Dozens of booths will showcase their works available for sale in all types of media. The Midtown Art Fair specializes in inclusion and celebrates diversity giving equitable opportunities to people with disabilities. New this year is the addition of a performance stage.
