WICKED (Detroit Opera House), opening weekend: Broadway’s blockbuster musical is back for its highly anticipated return to Detroit. Fly to the Opera House and discover what happened in Oz before Dorothy dropped in. It’s the untold story of the witches of Oz and how one became “wicked.” Tickets start at $59. Get tickets here.
Detroit Boat Show (Huntington Place), opening Saturday: It’s the final weekend to set sail with the boat of your dreams at one of Michigan’s largest boat shows. Find the latest models, as well as plenty of nautical goods. There will be giveaways, free classes, games, music and more. Dinosaur Adventure (Huntington Place), Saturday & Sunday.: Step into the Jurassic era where dinosaurs roamed. This larger-than-life exhibit brings these giants to life with realistic movements and roars. This family-friendly adventure is filled with activities including fossil crafting, obstacle courses, dinosaur riding, and Jurassic jeeps. BRRmingham Blast (Downtown Birmingham), Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.: A brand new event is coming to Birmingham. Stop by the shopping district for an afternoon of thrills and chills. If you’re brave enough, hang on for a wild ride on a 300-foot-long zip line. Come hungry and try one of the many food trucks lining up Old Woodward or feast on one of Birmingham’s tried and true restaurants. Winterfest (Belle Isle Nature Center), Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Make the trek to Belle Isle for a fun and family-friendly winter celebration. Dinosaur World Live (Fisher Theatre), Saturday 3 p.m.: Get immersed in the world of dinosaurs with an experience that brings the prehistoric monsters to life on stage. Ann Arbor Folk Fest (Hill Auditorium), Saturday 7 p.m.: Ann Arbor Folk Fest is back and is returning to its two-night format once again. Oak Park Winterfest (Oak Park Community Center), Sunday 1 to 4 p.m.: Bundle up for some free family fun. Head to the Oak Park Community Center for a winter wonderland filled with activities. Go ice skating at the rink or hop on board for a lovely carriage ride. Enjoy chili, hot chocolate and smores to keep you warm. Harlem Globetrotters (OU Credit Union O’Rena), Sunday 2 & 7 p.m.: The world-famous Harlem Globetrotters are hitting the road for some of the most extreme moves you’ve ever seen on a basketball court. Lions All Grit Watch Party (Ford Field), Sunday 5 p.m.: It’s been a wild ride and the most exciting season for Lions fans in decades. While Sunday’s game won’t be a home one, you can still feel the electricity with fans at a special watch party inside Ford Field. The game will be played in the stadium’s massive screens with performances by the Detroit Lions Drumline, Honolulu Bloom, Lions cheerleaders and, of course, Roary.
