Go 4 It: Metro Detroit nonprofit provides affordable dress ahead of prom

PORT HURON, Mich. – It’s prom season -- the season teenagers are looking forward to and planning their looks.

A lot of money gets spent on prom. Some dresses can cost thousands, but not everyone can or wants to spend that much. That’s where A Beautiful Me comes in.

The nonprofit is having its big prom fashion show and dress sale on Saturday, Feb. 17. It takes a lot of the expense out of finding a beautiful dress for prom or any occasion while simultaneously raising money to get teen girls acclimated to the idea of business ownership.

Some dresses are donated, some are re-recycled, but many of the gowns and dresses are brand spanking new. They look expensive, but they are 40-60% off retail.

A Beautiful Me and its social enterprise store The Closet is hosting a fashion show and sale Saturday in Port Huron so that young women can see what’s possible, be elated by what’s doable and purchase what’s affordable for their big day.

More information can be found on A Beautiful Me’s official website.

We want to honor those making a difference. Click here to nominate someone who’s Going 4 It in your community. We’ll be featuring your nominees every month on Local 4 and ClickOnDetroit.
