Sign up to make comfort blankets for organ donor families on April 30!

Registration required to attend

Go 4 It Blanket Making Event (WDIV)

DEARBORN, Mich. – As part of Local 4′s Go 4 It community campaign, we’ve partnered with Gift of Life Michigan to host a blanket-making event on Tuesday, April 30.

The organ and tissue donation organization makes comfort blankets that are provided to newly grieving donor families. We’re asking for volunteers to help us make a few hundred blankets so the organization can reach its goal.

Comfort blankets are often the last thing that touches a donor before their organs are procured. The blankets become a touching keepsake for the donor families.

Join our blanket-making event!

  • When: Tuesday, April 30 from noon to 6 p.m.
  • Where: Henry Ford Centennial Library - 16301 Michigan Ave, Dearborn, MI 48126. The event will be held on the third floor.
  • How to sign up: Registration is required to attend this event due to limited space. Please sign up for a specific time using the link below. You may sign up for multiple time slots, if available.
  • Walk-ins will not be permitted. However, you may stop by the event to drop off a new, handmade blanket, if you wish. Click here to see what type of blankets can be donated.

Becoming a donor

Michigan residents can join the organ donor registry. According to Gift of Life Michigan: Signing up means that “upon your death, you agree to become an organ, eye and tissue donor to save up to 8 lives, and potentially heal up to 125 others.”

“Go 4 It” has been a tagline for so long, but it’s really a feeling that we’re putting into action with the launch of the “Go 4 It” commitment, an effort to tell the stories of the people doing amazing things in our community.

It’s something we can all do together to lift up the positive actions of everyday people all around us.

You can nominate someone who is Going 4 It in your community here. We’ll be featuring your nominees every month on Local 4 and ClickOnDetroit.
