DEARBORN, Mich. – As part of Local 4′s Go 4 It community campaign, we’ve partnered with Gift of Life Michigan to host a blanket-making event on Tuesday, April 30.
The organ and tissue donation organization makes comfort blankets that are provided to newly grieving donor families. We’re asking for volunteers to help us make a few hundred blankets so the organization can reach its goal.
Comfort blankets are often the last thing that touches a donor before their organs are procured. The blankets become a touching keepsake for the donor families.
RSVPs for the event are fully booked. Thanks to everyone who signed up! (We cannot accommodate walk-ins, sorry!)
Volunteers will be working alongside Local 4 team members, in addition to members from Gift of Life Michigan. Volunteers will help tie cut fabric to create blankets. Chairs will be provided.

Becoming a donor
Michigan residents can join the organ donor registry. According to Gift of Life Michigan: Signing up means that “upon your death, you agree to become an organ, eye and tissue donor to save up to 8 lives, and potentially heal up to 125 others.”

“Go 4 It” has been a tagline for so long, but it’s really a feeling that we’re putting into action with the launch of the “Go 4 It” commitment, an effort to tell the stories of the people doing amazing things in our community.
It’s something we can all do together to lift up the positive actions of everyday people all around us.
You can nominate someone who is Going 4 It in your community here. We’ll be featuring your nominees every month on Local 4 and ClickOnDetroit.
