New this year, Glass 52 is adding live glass blowing demonstrations - thanks to Michigan glass artist, Andrew Madvin and his Axiom Studio which is just down the block from Habatat. From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., visitors will have the unique opportunity to see the art of glass blowing, up close and personal, in Axiom’s state of the art glass studio. They can even try their own skills at glass blowing.
“We are so delighted to partner with Andrew Madvin to give the public a chance to see the excitement of live glass blowing as it is practiced in a thriving modern glass studio, " said Aaron Schey, Director of Habatat. " Andrew is an extraordinary artist, and his space is beautiful. It is so exciting to have him just down the street from us. I’d like to think of our corner of Royal Oak as the new art glass district of metro Detroit.”
Schey continued: “This annual international glass exhibition is a centerpiece event for the world-wide glass art community. However, one of the goals of the annual exhibition is to acquaint the general public with the world of glass art as well. Not everyone is a collector, but it is important to us that the general public learn about the medium of glass and how it has grown in the world of art over the decades.”
