From parade floats to Ford Field: Howell Kid wins Thanksgiving VIP experience

DETROIT – This Thanksgiving, 10-year-old Zach Baca of Howell will enjoy an unforgettable experience thanks to being named the winner of the 10th annual #MIKidsCan Turkey Day VIP Sweepstakes by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and the Detroit Lions.

The event promotes healthy lifestyles and physical activity for kids across Michigan.

“It’s about engaging kids early, about making healthy choices, and helping them understand that physical activity can be a lot of fun,” said Andy Hetzel of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

Baca’s incredible day will begin with riding on the Blue Cross float in America’s Thanksgiving Day Parade — a thrill for the young athlete.

“He’s the one always trying to get the candy from the floats,” said his mom, Jennifer Baca.

But Zach’s highlight comes later when he delivers the Lions’ honorary game-day football before they face the Chicago Bears.

“We feel very blessed and excited that Zachary will be representing all the kids his age,” said his father, Ramon Baca. “To see the joy in his eyes as he represents his friends and peers.”

Zach is no stranger to sports himself. He plays tackle football, baseball, and basketball.

And while riding on a parade float is a unique experience for Zach, his heart is rooted in the grit and determination that define his favorite Detroit Lions.

“I like Aiden Hutchinson because he played d-end, and I play d-end,” he said. “I like St. Brown because he’s a really good wide receiver.

Zach’s confidence was unwavering when asked about his Super Bowl hopes for the Lions.

“I think they could pull off a Super Bowl this year. They’re on a really good winning streak, so hopefully, they can keep it up.”

Zach didn’t stop there. He boldly predicted a Lions victory in the Super Bowl, with a score of 52-32 against the Buffalo Bills.

“I’m just super excited. Go Lions,” Zach said.
