Hamtramck was originally settled by German farmers, but Polish immigrants flooded into the area when the Dodge Brothers plant opened in 1914.
Poles still make up a large proportion of the population.
Over the past 30 years, a large number of immigrants from the Middle East and South Asia have moved to the city.
As of the 2000 census, the city's foreign-born population stood at 41.1 percent, making it Michigan's most internationally diverse city.
The mission of the Hamtramck Historical Commission is to identify, and preserve the history and culture of the city and its citizens, both past and present, said commission officials.
The tour cost is $20 for members and $30 for non-members.
Advance registration is required, no tickets will be sold on the day of the tour and organizers say the tour will sell out
