Michigan Attorney General speaks out on massive surprise ambulance bills

‘It’s horrific’

DETROIT – Michigan’s Attorney General is speaking out about the outrageous ambulance bills some people are dealing with.

Dana Nessel and the ambulance company at the center of the controversy are providing new information.

Multiple viewers have reached out to Help Me Hank after receiving a surprise bill costing thousands of dollars. Luckily, Superior Ambulance has been working with Hank to reduce bills or remove them altogether.

But there is an issue that’s now getting the attention of Nessel.

“It’s horrific. Nobody asks to have some sort of life-threatening injury or accident that causes them to have to use an ambulance,” Nessel said. “It’s very upsetting to hear about these surprise billings.”

Nessel encourages those of you with big bills to contact her.

“Unfortunately, it’s just not covered under the current law and I would ask our state legislators to take a very serious look at changing the law, to amending the law and to specifically adding ambulance services so that these kinds of surprise billings don’t continue to happen,” Nessel said.

Several things are happening right now that will soon be revealed to help those of you who are struggling. In the meantime, contact Superior Ambulance and have them review the bills, work to negotiate and make sure you contact Help Me Hank and AG Nessel if your big bill problem drags on.

A statement from Superior Ambulance can be read below:

“Insurance plan reimbursements have not kept pace with inflationary pressures, or the labor costs and operational investments regulated and required to properly operate a sufficient and readied fleet of critical lifesaving ground ambulances. We look forward to working with the Michigan Legislature and other elected officials to enact policy changes to require insurance plan reimbursements so that patients will continue to receive the life-saving care they need.”
