Corewell Health reports another patient data breach, impacting 1 million Michigan residents

DETROIT – For the second time in as many months, there’s another data breach exposing the information of Corewell Health patients.

This time it involves HealthEC, a Corewell vendor whose stated mission is to “identify high-risk patients, close gaps in care and recognize barriers to optimal care”.

It’s separate from the breach announced in November, which involved a different Corewell vendor called Welltok.

According to the Michigan Attorney General’s Office, the current breach impacts more than one million Michigan residents. The compromised data may include names, addresses, birth dates, social security numbers, medical record numbers and potentially medical information like diagnoses, conditions, prescriptions and health insurance information.

Letters were mailed out Dec. 22 to those impacted by the latest breach.

HealthEC is offering a year of free credit monitoring and identity protection, which is outlined in the letter. For additional information, consumers can call1-833-466-9216 toll-free.
