How Metro Detroit woman got scammed buying concert tickets

DETROIT – A Metro Detroit woman shared her story with Help Me Hank after she got caught up in a concert ticket scam.

Consumer Investigative Reporter Hank Winchester connected with the scammer and helped the woman, who was out of big money.

Cindy couldn’t believe it happened to her. She was online searching for tickets to see CeCe Winans at the Fox Theatre and called the number she thought was Ticketmaster -- it wasn’t.

The scammer sent her out to buy gift cards. Twice.

Never buy gift cards to buy tickets or pay for a service and always check to see if the number you’re calling is legitimate by going to the provider’s website.

Attorney General Dana Nessel has released several warnings about scam attempts that use similar patterns. Consumer complaints can be filed online at the Attorney General’s website.
