Over 16,000 pounds of raw ground beef products sold at Walmart stores were recalled this week due to a potential E. coli contamination.
A recall of beef products made by Cargill Meat Solutions was announced Wednesday, May 1 due to a potential E. coli contamination, which is a bacteria that can cause illness. More than 16,243 pounds of ground beef sold at Walmart stores throughout the U.S. between April 26-APril 27 are being recalled.
The company issued the recall after learning that “previously segregated product had been inadvertently utilized in the production of ground beef,” leading to a potential contamination. There hadn’t been any reports of illnesses due to the recalled products as of Thursday, May 2.
The following products are included in the recall:
Anyone who purchased a recalled item is urged to not consume it. Instead, the products can be thrown away or returned at the place of purchase.
Anyone who believes they’re experiencing E. coli symptoms -- such as dehydration, bloody diarrhea, and abdominal cramps -- should seek emergency medical care immediately. Most people exposed to E. coli recover within a week, but some people may develop kidney failure, officials said.
