DEARBORN, Mich. – A food distributor in Wayne County on Monday recalled ground black pepper products that may be contaminated with salmonella.
UBC Food Distributors, located in Dearborn, on Monday, June 3 recalled ground black pepper products sold under the brand name Baraka. The state of Michigan found that the products tested positive for salmonella, a bacteria, during routine testing.
The recall affects 7-ounce containers of Baraka ground black pepper with the following UPC code: 8 22514 26626 6. Affected products also have a “best before” date of January 2026 printed on the back of the container. Photos of the container can be see above.

Salmonella may lead to more serious illness for younger and older people, and people with immune disorders. In rare cases, people may experience arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms.
Anyone with these symptoms should contact their health care provider. No illnesses had been reported as a result of consuming this recalled product as of June 3.
Officials said the pepper products were distributed to retail stores across the U.S., but did not specify which ones. Anyone who purchased the product is urged not to use it, and to return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
