Detroit family finally gets delayed headstone for sister

Months-long delay over headstone resolved for Detroit family

DETROIT – A family’s battle with a business over a headstone they paid hundreds of dollars for to honor the life of their departed sister has come to an end.

The marker was purchased in January and installation was set to happen in April but for months, Barbara Brooks’ grave has sat without anything to honor her life. Finding her resting place has been a challenge for her loved ones.

Diane Brooks was upset. She just wanted her sister’s final resting place to be complete. She ordered the grave marker for almost $1,000 and hasn’t heard anything from the company.

“I went over there and ordered it and gave them all the information. I paid for it in cash,” Diane Brooks said. “I waited and waited and nobody called. So I called them back again. I still don’t have a headstone. I don’t have my money.”

Hank Winchester visited the company hired to make the marker to get answers for the family. They said they were delayed due to an issue with the granite supply and after months of waiting, the grave marker was installed late afternoon, Friday, Aug. 2.

The family said they’re happy it’s finally resolved and are planning to visit Barbara Brooks’ grave Saturday.
