The time a storm like this one cost Hank Winchester $15,000 in weather damage

I couldn’t believe it. I did not lose power during this latest weather event.

I share this not to boast but because I alwayyyys lose power and for multiple days. I live in a neighborhood with many big, old trees that love to snap when the wind whips up.

This weather event straight line winds-same thing earlier this summer. I tried to convince Kim and Ashlee it was a tornado but, hey, they are the weather experts. Ha.

In fact, during storms earlier this summer I had damages that totaled up to around $15,000.

I was sad to see my patio set and grill get crushed. My daughter mourned her play structure. We’re back to normal now, but it was a challenging week or so as we navigated the mess without power.

I got in touch with my insurance adjuster immediately. I took pictures of all the damage. I kept a log of all my interactions with DTE, the city, and the insurance teams. I even took pictures of all the food, wine and beer that had to be pitched. DTE gave us a $30-ish credit (that covered my daughter’s popsicles basically) but it all adds up.

I was relentless on the DTE app working to update my status and make them aware we were still without power.

The bottom line is: Not having power makes you feel powerless, literally, and dealing with storm damage at the same time can be a lot.

My advice: Try to get patient, keep good records, and remember if you need help you can also contact me 313-634-WDIV.

We will get through this together.
