DETROIT – You can feel the chill in the air. We hate to admit it as we’re enjoying this nice fall weather, but old man winter will be here soon enough.

Typically during this time of year, I hear from many tenants who are battling their landlord to turn on the heat. In some cases, the property management companies set a specific date to flip the heat on, and sometimes it just depends on the temperature outside.

The most important thing to remember is you have rights as a tenant, and the city is willing to help you.

The city of Detroit has resources available and a team that works with tenants and landlords to address a wide variety of concerns.

Across the state of Michigan, know that agencies are in place to make sure help is there if you need it. Click here to view that information.

I will be talking about your rights and showing you how to get the help you need later today on Local 4 News.
