Kroger is testing out new technology they say will enhance your shopping experience.
Kroger has partnered with Microsoft to test an upgraded digital self technology. The smart shelves are digital displays that update prices dynamically and show personalized icons to help shoppers find items they've put on their shopping lists.
The shelves will help also help workers identify items to fulfill curbside pickup orders. The technology is powered by Microsoft Azure.
The technology is being tested in two stores: in Monroe, Ohio and Redmond, Washington.
"Kroger is building a seamless ecosystem driven by data and technology to provide our customers with personalized food inspiration. We are identifying partners through Restock Kroger who will help us reinvent the customer experience and create new profit streams that will also accelerate our core business growth. We are excited to collaborate with Microsoft to redefine grocery retail," said Rodney McMullen, Kroger's chairman and CEO.
The smart shelves would connect with Kroger's Scan, Bag, Go tool. The new pilot will guide expansion plans in 2019 and beyond.
