Sony plans to have its next-generation game console available by Christmas 2020.
They're aptly calling it PlayStation 5, Sony's first new game console release since PlayStation 4 launched in 2013.

"Today I'm proud to share that our next-generation console will be called PlayStation 5, and we'll be launching in time for Holiday 2020," Sony President Jim Ryan wrote in a blog post Tuesday morning. "These updates may not be a huge surprise, but we wanted to confirm them for our PlayStation fans, as we start to reveal additional details about our vision for the next generation."
WIRED magazine got an exclusive interview with Ryan ahead of the announcement.
Sony first launched PlayStation in North American back in 1995. It was followed by PS One in 2000, then PlayStation 2 (PS2) later in the year 2000, and then PlayStation 3 (PS3) in 2006.
In 2013, PlayStation 4 was the first Sony game console to be released in North American before it was released in Japan. All previous had been released in Japan first.
