The Associated Press is projecting that current U.S. President Joe Biden has won the most votes in Michigan’s 2024 presidential primary election for the Democratic Party.

As of 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27, the AP is calling the race for Biden in Michigan’s Democratic primary. The only other candidate opposing Biden for the Democratic nomination was Dean Phillips.

As incumbent, Biden, 81, was expected to win the state’s primary, and is further expected to secure the party’s nomination for the Democratic candidate in the general election later this year.

Biden already secured 91 delegates before Tuesday. His likely-Republican opponent former President Donald Trump had already secured 110 delegates as of Tuesday, compared to Republican candidate Nikki Haley’s 20 delegates.

Michigan is the fifth state to host a presidential primary election in 2024. The state typically held its presidential primary elections in March before moving it to February this year.
