Here are some of the key findings on the Senate race, Project 2025 and immigration:

Michigan US Senate race

Voters were asked who they would support in a US Senate race between Democrat Elissa Slotkin and Republican Mike Rogers.

The survey found Slotkin leads Rogers 45.9%-41.2%, with 12.5% of voters remaining undecided.

Slotkin holds 15-point lead among independent voters at 43.5%-28.7%, with 27.8% of independent voters undecided. But Slotkin also takes 9.8% of leaning GOP voters.

  • Among women, Slotkin leads 53.3%-32.7% with 13.7% of women undecided.
  • Among men, Rogers leads 50.7%-37.8%, with 11.2% of men undecided.
  • Slotkin beats Rogers 78.2%-7.7% among African American voters.
  • Rogers leads among white voters 47.9%-40.2%.

70.7% of Strong Democratic voters and 78.6% of Leaning Democratic voters have heard of Project 2025 with none of these voters having a favorable opinion.

53.7% of independent voters have heard of Project 2025 breaking 2.8% favorable to 28.7% unfavorable.

58.5% of Strong Republicans and 52.1% of Leaning Republican voters have heard of Project 2025 – with the plurality of those voters having no opinion of it.

Project 2025

The WDIV/Detroit News survey found 62.7% of voters have already heard something about Project 2025.

  • 3.3% have a favorable view.
  • 37.4% have an unfavorable view.
  • 22.0% have heard of it, but have no opinion.
  • 36.9% have never heard of Project 2025.

Immigration issues

Voters were asked if they support or oppose deporting 11 million immigrants who do not have legal immigration papers regardless of how long they have been in the United States. Like the presidential race, voters are deeply split with 46.1% supporting deportation and 45.6% opposing deportation. 8.3% were undecided.

Trump voters strongly support deportation while Harris voters strongly oppose deportation. Kennedy voters are split, with undecided voters in support of deportation.

Voters were asked if they support or oppose the creation of large-scale detention camps to house undocumented immigrants before deportation and using the US military to round up undocumented immigrants. The survey found 32.6% support these tactics while 59.7% oppose these tactics. 51.7% of Michigan voters – a majority – STRONGLY OPPOSE the use of the military and detention camps for deportation.

Republicans support deportation camps and using the US military – but Democratic and independent voters are sharply opposed to those tactics. Only Trump voters support the use of deportation camps and the military with all other voters sharply opposed.

Voters were read two options and asked which one more accurately reflected their own view. Voters overwhelmingly choose a pathway to citizenship provided our borders are secured.

  • 70.4%: We should secure our borders and undocumented migrants who have committed no crimes should be given a pathway to citizenship over a period of years.
  • 23.5%: We should secure our borders, and undocumented migrants should be immediately deported regardless of how long they have been here, their family or their work status.
