New polling shows where Michigan voters stand on Senate race

Slotkin leads Rogers in race for Michigan US Senate seat

A new WDIV/Detroit News survey asked voters to weigh in on the state’s U.S. Senate race.

The WDIV/Detroit News survey was conducted between Aug. 26 and Aug. 29, 2024.

Here are some of the key findings on the U.S. Senate race in Michigan:

  • Elissa Slotkin leads Mike Rogers 43.5%-35.0% -- a lead of 8.5%.

Among ‘definite voters’, Slotkin expands her to lead to 45.2%-35.2% -- a ten-point lead. 13.6% of definite voters are undecided.

‘Probable voters’ lean towards Rogers at 32.7% Rogers to 25.0% Slotkin. 30.8% of probable voters are undecided.

Slotkin holds a six-point lead among independent voters – but 38.0% of independent voters remain undecided.

  • Slotkin is winning 90% of Kamala Harris voters. But Rogers is winning only 72% of Trump voters giving him considerable room to grow.
  • Slotkin holds a 23.2%-point lead among college voters. Non-college voters are essentially tied with at 39.8% Rogers to 37.8% Slotkin – a difference of two-points.
  • Slotkin holds a 20.7%-point lead among women with 18.8% of women remaining undecided. Rogers holds a 4.4% lead among men with 11.2% remaining undecided.
  • Slotkin holds a 2-1 lead in Metro Detroit leading by 28.1% points. Rogers holds a 10.3%-point lead in out-state Michigan, with 18.4% of out-state voters remaining undecided.

Harris and Slotkin are both pulling 43.5% of the vote. The difference is that Trump is pulling 44.7% while Rogers is pulling only 35.0% -- a difference of 9.7%.


Poll methodology

The Glengariff Group, Inc. conducted a Michigan statewide survey of November 2024 likely general election voters. The 600 sample, live operator telephone survey was conducted on August 26-29, 2024 and has a margin of error of +/-4.0% with a 95% level of confidence. 16.6% of respondents were contacted via landline telephone. 83.4% of respondents were contacted via cell phone telephone. This survey was commissioned by WDIV Local 4 News and the Detroit News.
