’West Side Story’ Academy Award winner George Chakiris to make live appearance at Redford Theatre

The star will answer audience questions

DETROIT – The historic Redford Theatre released its film lineup for the upcoming season, spanning from Jan. 17 to May 9, Tuesday morning on Facebook.

Among the Hollywood staples, like “Roman Holiday” and “Casablanca," on the theater’s schedule is an especially special event: A live appearance from Academy Award winner George Chakiris from “West Side Story.”

Chakiris, who played Sharks leader Bernardo, will be answering questions from the audience during a VIP event March 28, one of three nights “West Side Story” is showing at the theater. VIP tickets also include early admission to the 8 p.m. screening, an autographed poster and dessert.

“West Side Story" will also be showing March 27 at 8 p.m. and March 29 at 2 p.m.

Also featured on the lineup is Sydney Pollack’s “Amazing Grace," a concert movie that premiered last year which features Aretha Franklin recording her 1972 live album of the same name. The movie will show Feb. 2 and will be preceded by a performance by the Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit.
