Her Detroit show was epic, classic

DETROIT – Madonna represents the spirit of Detroit.

Now, before the Madonna haters loudly disagree, let me explain:

Her show on Monday, Jan. 15 at Little Caesars Arena was big, epic, grand.

Yes, she was late. Yes, she was controversial at times. But, at 65 years old, having battled back from a life or death illness last year, Madonna showed the packed house that she was a survivor.

The show was filled with all the big hits we know and love. The production value was off the charts. Madonna knows how to put together a big show -- and it was a big show.

There were touching moments, like when she spoke about her 92-year-old father (who was there), and when she talked about how being from the Detroit area shaped her.

There were some racier moments that some may not have enjoyed, but that’s Madonna -- just classic Madonna. It’s no shock that she’s not done shocking.

I get that she’s pissed off a lot of people during her long career, and at times has said things about Michigan that even I didn’t love. However, when I say she represents the spirit of Detroit, I mean she’s a fighter, she works her butt off, and she has that toughness that makes Detroiters unique. Nothing will stop her.

She, like our city, has been called a lot of things. Madonna has been canceled more times than I can count. But the most controversial thing she’s done is stick around -- and she said that Monday night.

Like her or not, I respect anyone who fights for what they believe in, and I believe Madonna showed everyone at her Detroit show that you can never count her, or us, out.

Go Madonna. Go Detroit.
