DETROIT – Broadway’s biggest hits and award winners are making their way to Detroit for the 2024-25 season.
To kick off this year’s spectacular (spectacular) season is Moulin Rouge! The Musical, the 10-time Tony Award-winning stage adaptation of Buz Luhrman’s boundary-breaking film extravaganza. Modern pop songs are mashed up and remixed to bring audiences to a world of excess and excitement to find truth, beauty, freedom and love. Moulin Rouge! The Musical will can-can at the Detroit Opera House September 17 to October 6.

Take a one-way ticket back to the days of Prohibition with Some Like It Hot, the new musical based on the 1959 Marilyn Monroe movie. With Tony Award-winning choreography and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, Some Like It Hot is the musical comedy that audiences are thirsty for. It’s the true story that will leave you feeling “So good! So good! So good!” A Beautiful Noise plays at the Fisher Theatre Christmas Eve through January 5, 2025.
Last year’s Tony Award winner for Best Revival of a Musical, Parade, is marching into Detroit. An accusation turns Leo Frank’s world upside down, testing his marriage, his faith and his humanity. You can catch Parade at the Fisher Theatre February 25 to March 9.
Critical darling Kimberly Akimbo will also find its way here in Motor City as one of the initial stops on its first national tour. Last year’s Tony Award winner for Best Musical tells the original story of 16-year-old Kimberly who ages so fast, she looks elderly. How does she navigate moving to a new town and meeting her first love, even with her condition? It’s an adventurous tale of finding happiness against all odds.
Ease on down, ease on down the road to the brand-new production of The Wiz. Set to open on Broadway this April, The Wiz embarked on its first national tour in four decades before landing “home” at the Marquis Theatre in New York where its soul-filled twist of The Wizard of Oz will make “Everybody Rejoice” before heading back on the road again. Feel “A Brand New Day” when The Wiz comes to town June 17 to 29.
