The holiday season is upon us and the Planet Ant Theatre has a treat for you! Remember when we all used to do our holiday shopping at a mall? The Christmas Collection is kind of about that, and a few other ridiculously hilarious relatable scenarios. Once the beating heart of Suburban City Township, Plaza Place Mall is going out of business but not before hosting its final Christmas Collection celebration. There’s no shortage of shenanigans when it comes to the staff, performers and shoppers of all generations. The Christmas Collections is a comedic romp with a variety of characters set in the universe of a soon to become relic mall. It has everything from dueling kiosks to mall walkers and washed-up country singers.

The 7th Annual Detroit Tequila Festival returns to Eastern Market! This fabulous tasting event will have over 70 tequilas, featuring Tequila Liqueurs, Creams, Infusions, Flavored Tequilas, Mezcals, and a variety of Exotic Margaritas. There will also be live music by Cosmic Groove, Detroit’s finest Mexican inspired food trucks, vendors, souvenirs and more! This event will benefit Youth Sports Scholarships, a 501C3 organization that helps families pay for their children’s sporting fees. Donations from this event will help kids play!

Well, hello buddy. Looking for some old timey up north cabin story time vibes? Upper Peninsula social media star Fritz otherwise known as the Old Time Hawkey will be at Saint Andrews Hall Friday for an evening of humor, warmth, and a touch of Christmas magic! He’s popularly known for his cottagecore, cooking and pleasant cabin asmr videos which have taken the hearts of millions and millions of followers across the internet. The theatrical production is called “A Holiday Story from Uncle Buch” and is a heartwarming tale about a hunter (Fritz’s uncle) who gets lost on Christmas Eve and discovers a magical cabin in the woods. The story, narrated by Fritz will come to life with live stage actors acting out an Old Time Hawkey family tale set in the year 1986.

This Saturday and Sunday, venture over to Downtown Holly’s historic social district Battle Alley for a Victorian themed holiday festival celebrating the works of the great Charles Dickens. While strolling the festival you can enjoy magical live performances, folks dressed in their finest period clothing, live music, warm drinks and food, fun games, carriage and train rides and even chestnuts roasting on an open fire! The festival is free and family friendly. While you’re there you can also check out all the unique antique shops and restaurants downtown Holly has to offer.

This weekend, A Surreality by Detroit-based artist and designer Chris Schanck opens. The exhibit showcases objects, sculptures, and furniture that explores the nature of science fiction, myth and fantasy presented as relics from the artist’s dreamscapes or sur-reality. The exhibit will be open through February 23rd at MOCAD.
