DETROIT – Detroit Kid City is place that fuels kids with imagination and parents with caffeine.
"We're a kid-friendly coffee house," said general manager Garrett Dixon. "It's a low tech. Kids run around, let their imagination take over and the parents can interact with them."
Kids can pretend play at replicas of an automotive factory, a bank, barber shop, post office, pizzeria, school house and even the Hitsville USA museum.
"I think it's just fun for the kids to be hands-on with everyday activities," said Birmingham mom Jill Mar. "I like that their able to do things they see us do independently. My daughter loves shopping at the market and the pizzeria."
The indoor play place also has locally-roasted coffee in a café for parents. The café also features organic juices (including wheat grass) and other Michigan-made snacks.
"A lot of our spaces for the children are sponsored by local companies. We sell local products and have Motown music pumping all day long," Dixon said.

Hours: Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They are closed on Sundays for private parties.
Admission: $10 per child. Adults and children under 12 months are free with the purchase of a drink. Unlimited monthly memberships are available for $100.
