Jason Carr: Why the changing of seasons bums me out

Snow shoveling.

The changing of the seasons blows. Not just the chilly wind or October skies. It’s also the slow death of the tree leaves, the expense of closing the pool, Lions football. You know what I’m saying.

The older I get the less I enjoy Fall and Winter. I’m starting to understand more and more why snowbirds vamoose to Florida and Arizona. Year-round golf, sunshine, early bird dinner specials at Sign of the Beef Carver. Sign me up.

Sure there are hurricanes and wildfires and water shortages. I could live with those to escape Wal-Mart Wolverine fans, pumpkin spice everything and snowstorm mornings on The Lodge. Also, just the seasonal affective disorder that we won’t feel warmth again for six months.

Ugh.

But…maybe we will luck out at get an El Nino like 1998 and I’ll be golfing in January. Not likely given that it hasn’t happened since then but one can hope. And we all know hope springs eternal, which could be our state motto given none of our teams have won a title in a given sport since the Wings in 2008. So there’s that to dread because we all know there’s no titles in our future either.

Grim stuff.

But at least you can fly away to Cancun on winter break. On Spirit. For twice the price it used to be.

Ok I have to stop writing now.
