Anyone who has ever been trick-or-treating in their life has been there.
The excitement of running up to a doorbell in costume quickly turns into disbelief or frustration over what is put in the pillow sack, plastic pumpkin, bag or whatever other else is used to haul candy around a neighborhood.

And no, we’re not talking about a certain type of candy you don’t like. That can always be traded out with friends at the end of the night.
Nope, we’re talking about non-candy items that sometimes are given out. The kind of items that make a trick or treater say, “They really gave me THIS for Halloween?”
Below are a few examples.
Mind you, this is nowhere near a complete list and there are probably other items that can be included that we’re missing (this is where you can come in at the bottom of this story). But here are some common non-candy items that can sometimes make its way in the candy bag or plastic pumpkin.
- Pennies
- Raisins
- Peanuts
- Toothbrush
- Pencils
