Meningococcal meningitis symptoms

Red rash is something to look out for

The symptoms of meningococcal meningitis are not any different from the run of the mill meningitis.

Symptoms include:

> Headache
> Fever
> Stiff neck
> Trouble with bright lights
> Changes in level of alertness

Red rash

The unique thing about meningococcal meningitis is it sometimes causes a rash. It will be a red rash with either little pinpoints or sometimes a blotchy, bruised looking rash.

IMPORTANT: If you get something like a red rash, that is more than extremely serious. That is an emergency that needs to go to the emergency room right away.

I really want to emphasize meningococcal meningitis is a much more serious form of bacterial meningitis. It is not the common bacterial meningitis ... some people just naturally have the bacteria in their bodies and it can affect them spontaneously.
