Doctor advises how to maintain healthy skin, youthful hands

People worry about the signs of aging on their face, but there are other body parts that can give away a person's age.

Wyandotte based dermatologist Dr. Steven Grekin said people can keep their hands looking young by applying sunscreen daily and moisturizing several times a day.

"The telltale sign to know how old a person is you look at their hands," Grekin said. "The backs of people's hands really show their age. You can have facial fillers, you can have toxins, you can have procedures, whether it's lasers, light or facelift and your face will look young but your hands tell the story.

People don't know that moisturizing cream is only designed to seal in water, so anytime your applying moisturizer anywhere on the body it should always go on wet skin,"

The neck is another area of the body that people can forget to keep looking young.

"Whatever you're putting on your face you should put on your neck," Grekin said.  "They should treat that area with rejuvenating creams. I think they need sunscreen for sure, they need a retinoid cream, something that's actually going to stimulate new tight collagen cells and new elastin, and then they need hydration. I love all these new hyaluronic acid products. You can buy them over the counter you can buy expensive ones."

Women should also put the lotion on their décolletage area.

With skin care products being costly, Grekin suggested a couple products you can buy at area drug stores that have hyaluronic acid in them. Cera Ve SA for the body including neck and hands and the Neutrogena Hydro Boost for the neck and face.  Both retail for around $20.

Another tip when you're putting your face creams on at night: whatever extra you have rub on the backs of your hands.
