OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – An Oakland County man has died from the flu, health officials confirmed Thursday.
The 69-year-old man is the first person to die from the flu in the county since this year’s flu season began Oct. 1. According to officials, the number of reported flu cases is lower for this time of year than previous years.

The Oakland County Health Division is encouraging residents to get a flu shot. It is recommended that all people older than 6 months get the shot. Contact the Health Division’s Nurse on Call at 800-848-5533 to inquire about vaccine availability.
Flu symptoms:
- Fever or chills
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Runny or stuffy nose
- Muscle or body aches
- Headaches
- Fatigue
- Vomiting and diarrhea (more common in children than adults)
