Oakland County hosts clinic to administer doses of COVID booster vaccine

Steady stream of people showed up, officials say

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – Since booster doses of the Pfizer vaccine were authorized on Friday (Sept. 24), more than 400,000 people have received their third dose. That’s just at pharmacies.

More than one million people have scheduled an appointment. You do not need to get your booster dose at the same location, or even from the same provider that gave you the initial shots. You just need to bring in your vaccine card.

Kate Guzman is Oakland County’s Administrator of Medical Services. She said Wednesday’s (Sept. 29) vaccine clinic was steady.

“I didn’t make an appointment or anything. I came on in and got served immediately,” 86-year-old Eugene Wilson said.

While people who walk in will get vaccinated, it’s better to take advantage of online appointment scheduling no matter where you’re getting vaccinated.

The CDC recently published data on reactions to third doses reported to the smartphone-based V-Safe surveillance system. There were no unexpected patterns of adverse reactions after the additional vaccine dose.

Overall, the most common reactions were pain at the injection site, fatigue, body aches and a headache.
