IF YOU RECEIVED Pfizer-BioNTech
Who should get a booster:
- Everyone 12 years and older
When to get a booster:
- At least 5 months after completing your primary COVID-19 vaccination series
Which booster can you get:
- Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna (mRNA COVID-19 vaccines) are preferred in most* situations
- Teens 12–17 years old may only get a Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine booster
IF YOU RECEIVED Moderna
Who should get a booster:
- Adults 18 years and older
When to get a booster:
- At least 5 months after completing your primary COVID-19 vaccination series
Which booster can you get:
- Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna (mRNA COVID-19 vaccines) are preferred in most* situations
IF YOU RECEIVED Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen*
Who should get a booster:
- Adults 18 years and older
When to get a booster:
- At least 2 months after receiving your J&J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccination
Which booster can you get:
- Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna (mRNA COVID-19 vaccines) are preferred in most* situations
*Although mRNA vaccines are preferred, J&J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine may be considered in some situations.
Choosing Your COVID-19 Booster Shot
You may choose which COVID-19 vaccine you receive as a booster shot. Some people may prefer the vaccine type that they originally received, and others may prefer to get a different booster. CDC’s recommendations now allow for this type of mix and match dosing for booster shots.
