DETROIT – People will be able to get free health screenings in Detroit during Public Health Week.
Public Health Week is hosted by the Detroit Health Department and will take place from April 1 through April 6. You do not need to make an appointment, bring an ID, or have health insurance to get a free health screening.
The health department is working with Detroit police precincts, recreation centers, and other community partners to host the event. This year’s theme is “Centering and Celebrating Culture in Health.”
Residents will be able to get a free health screening or participate in other activities that promote a healthy lifestyle. The screenings and activities include the following:
- Checks of blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and kidney function
- HIV and syphilis testing
- Fitness classes
- CPR training
- Narcan training and kit distribution
- Mental health Makeovers
- Lead screenings
- Cuts and Conversations, a men’s panel discussion
Events will be held at the Detroit Health Department, Detroit police precincts, and Detroit recreation centers on the following dates and times:
- Monday, April 1: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
- Tuesday, April 2: 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
- Wednesday, April 3: 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
- Thursday, April 4: 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
- Friday, April 5: 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
- Saturday, April 6: 12 p.m. - 2 p.m.
