Teen mom killed, 6-year-old son injured in shooting on Detroit’s west side

Suspect has turned themselves in, police say

DETROIT – A 19-year-old woman was killed and a child injured in a shooting on Detroit’s west side Thursday, May 30.

The shooting happened at about 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of Tireman Avenue and Sussex Street, near Greenfield Road. Police said the teenage mom was shot in the neck as she was getting into her car in an attempt to get away from a domestic violence incident and collapsed onto her 6-year-old son, who was also shot. It is possible he was hit by the same bullet.

The 6-year-old remains taken to Sinai Grace Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Police said the suspect and alleged father of the child had turned himself in.
