Case of hepatitis A found in Detroit Water and Sewerage Department employee

Employee does not interact with public, DWSD says

A DWSD employee contracted hepatitis A. (WDIV)

DETROIT – Health officials announced Thursday a case of hepatitis A has been found in a worker at the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department.

A DWSD spokesman said the employee does sewer inspections and has no interaction with the public. The man has nothing to do with water service, DWSD said.

Co-workers have been notified of the possible exposure to hepatitis A. As a precaution, DWSD is working with health officials to offer vaccinations.

DWSD is still investigating how the employee contracted hepatitis A.
