Kym Brady is like most teenage girls; she likes reading, hanging out with her dad and is even a fan of classic cars. But what you may not expect from this mild mannered young lady is that she's a violin virtuoso.
Kym just turned 15 years old and has only been playing the violin for about four years but plays with the skill of someone with several more years of training. Kym says, "...violin wasn't really a popular instrument so I thought it would be really cool to play one."
With the goal of making violin more “cool” and mainstream Kym chooses to play music you wouldn't expect, earning her the title The Urban Violinist. She says, "I like playing all different types of music so I don't play a specific genre. I rock, pop, R&B just the whole nine!" Kym hopes people will understand the violin more because she feels the type of music she plays is more relatable.
Kym regularly learns new music to add to her repertoire and puts in the work to keep her skills up. She says, “Practicing is really practicing for a reason - so you can get better. I practice two hours a day to make sure I get everything under my belt."
Kym’s goals don’t end with just being a violinist. She hopes to be an actor, maybe even, while playing the violin.
