Near the Detroit River, in downtown Wyandotte, is a restaurant serving up juicy burgers and Whiskeys on the Water.
“It had a little history with that Tyler Farr song, Whiskey in my Water,” explains Edward Sollars, co-owner of Whiskeys on the Water. “We kind of made a play on that… and we wanted to make a whiskey and prohibition era themed bar.”
So they moved into an old bank that was built back in 1924 on the corner of Oak and Biddle and transformed it into a bar. They stripped the walls down to their original brick and made a pallet wall with their name on it.
“We kept it pretty basic and it all came together for us,” says Joshua Cade, the other owner.
They even have a 1929 Ford Model AA truck with empty whiskey bottles in the back to go along with their theme.
“It was probably used back in the day to bootleg liquor and bring things across the border, but you never know,” jokes Sollars.
As the name of the restaurant implies, they have a very large whiskey and scotch selection. The owners estimate they have over 50 different bourbons, scotches and whiskeys.
Here they dish up traditional American cuisine with items like ribs, steaks, burgers, fish, mac and cheese and some salads. Whiskey has even made its way into the food as well with a whiskey glazed salmon and a whiskey burger with Portobello mushrooms, caramelized onions and gorgonzola cheese. They also serve brunch with a make your own bloody mary and mimosa bar on the weekends.
