Here’s how you can help ensure Michiganders can enjoy a hunger-free summer

Gleaners Community Food Bank is planning for this summer to be a busy one, serving an additional 16,000 homes in Michigan.

Last year, Gerry Brisson, president and CEO of Gleaners Community Food Bank, said the group was serving an extra 35,000 homes at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gleaners serves five counties, including Wayne, Livingston, Oakland, Macomb and Monroe -- with emergency food distributions, and help with the summer meal service programs that provide families with food and groceries.

Even through the pandemic, Gleaners has maintained more than 600 partners, including pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other locations.

Through the Citizens Helping Citizens Community initiative, Citizens Bank, a Gleaners partner, has helped provide 15 million meals to families in need in the past year.
