There’s nothing like getting lost in a good book and local bookstores can often help you discover unique titles. A bookstore in Oak Park has been helping readers get lost in a good book for nearly four decades and their story is still going on.
Cary Loren, owner of The Book Beat in Oak Park joined Kim DeGiulio to talk about the types of books they sell. Loren says Book Beat is a general bookstore that specializes in children’s, photography and fine arts books.
Loren says The Book Beat is a community bookstore that brings writers and authors together. He also says their customers are maverick and interested in unusual art and ideas.
October is National Book Month and Loren says reading is important for mental health. He says reading is a way to create empathy in readers and a way to widen your view of the world.
On October 17, The Book Beat is hosting a Teacher Appreciation Day where local authors will introduce new books to teachers and the event is open to the public.
